Make 2024 The Year You Achieve A Healthy Weight
We know you’ve tried it all – constant dieting, workouts, and maybe even other medications. Clients come to us all the time telling us how frustrating it is to work so hard and not be able to shed unwanted pounds. That’s why medications like Semaglutide (like Ozempic or Wegovy) and Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) have been such an exciting breakthrough for the treatment and management of obesity. You’ve probably heard of these drugs and may even know some people who have started taking them and seeing results. So, let’s discuss the two options we’ll soon be offering at Reve.
What Do These Drugs Do?
Both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are hormone-mimicking drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. That means they mimic the GLP-1 hormone and “trick” your brain into feeling less hungry. For many people, this provides the relief of not constantly thinking about food and can lead to long-term success without feelings of deprivation.
Tirzepatide differs from Semaglutide in a key way, however. In addition to being a GLP-1 receptor agonist, it’s also a glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist. This is important because the GIP hormone plays a role in insulin creation and gives the sensation of fullness. For these reasons, Tirzepatide may accelerate weight loss results. The choice between the two depends on your health history, a discussion with a provider, and what you feel most comfortable with.
